“…Rob Haroun, an established builder with SIR Development who has completed more than 70 projects in Westport since 1993, agrees that new construction is getting relatively smaller. In 2009, Haroun built five houses, mostly on half-acre lots. Instead of a longer, sprawling home, however, he concentrated on building two-level houses at 4,200 square feet with finished attics and finished basements to add more useful living space. All the houses he built sold. “People are willing to compromise length for usable vertical space. Now a lot of houses have six or seven windows in the finished attic and a lower level with light, a fireplace and a set of stairs that go out to grade level,” he said…”
